Water & Time Never Remain Still
Waterways are maps In motion that are forever revising their bank edges. Our recent deluge brought in by the atmospheric river reshaped Monte Verde creek by washing out some of the beaver dams and the ponds behind them. The last photo slide shows how different the vegetation and water path was in this same location in 2016.
According to the National Weather Service, Sac Exec Airport received a record-setting 81.9% of the total precipitation from the entire 2020 to 2021 water year in just 24 hours. Rocklin, CA received 5.63 inches of rain from 1 AM Sun to 1 AM Mon October 25, 2021.
The Storm of 2011
The last time that a storm washed out the beaver dam & the wide pond behind it in this area of the creek was 2011. This storm took place in late winter so much of the vegetation was dormant and the area that was exposed is larger. Once spring weather returned the sandy exposed areas quickly filled in with plants taking advantage of the continuous water source infiltrating from the creek below the surface.
